Ancoria Insurance is a insurance company that operates from Cyprus. We have offered overseas savings to the Swedish market for 25 years. Ancoria manages savings for 45 000 customers. Our history
The company was registered in 1987 in Nicosia, Cyprus, Alpha Insurance, co-founder Sievert Larsson and Roger Akelius. The business idea was simple. At that time Sweden had stringent restrictions on the movement of money. Swedish citizens could only bring 3 000 SEK a year without special permission from Belgium.
The founders started an insurance company in Cyprus. That it started in Cyprus was a bit of a coincidence. But Cyprus had a favourable business environment with an established offshore industry. Legislation was based on English law and the English language was very widespread. Access to well-trained personnel was also an important factor.
Customers were offered initially to save 3000 SEK a year in an so called Allemansförsäkring and premiums were invested in Sparfonden. When it in 1991 became possible for Swedish citizens to bring unlimited capital the company Alpha Capital insurance was introduced.
A few years later, we introduced our first unique link funds and started a successful cooperation with HQ Funds. Through this cooperation our customers were allowed through their own life policy with us to invest in a selection of HQ funds.
The company changed its name to Akelius Insurance in 1997 as a result of the trade mark Akelius was more known among our customers.
We continued our efforts to offer our customers a great selection of mutual funds by supplementing the supply of funds. During the following year, we introduced a number of emerging market funds that were highly requested by our customers.
The company continued to supplement its range of services and products. We launched new partnerships with a range of Internet intermediaries, which made it possible for our customers to buy shares through an life policy.
In 2006 Sievert Larsson and Roger Akelius chose to divide activities between separately. Sievert Larsson took over control of Akelius Insurance and Roger Akelius took control of the real estate business.
As a natural consequence of the division the company changed name on 1 May 2008 to Ancoria Insurance in order to continue to grow on its own.
